The operating hours of the 100E bus carrying passengers between Budapest city center and Liszt Ferenc International Airport will change significantly from August. The bus route was introduced in July 2017 and opening hours have since been extended.
According airportal.hu, bus 100E will run more frequently and 24/7 between Deák Ferenc Square and Budapest Airport. The Budapest Transport Company (BKK) wrote in its announcement that the bus was only available with the airport shuttle single ticket. It costs 1500 HUF (3.71 EUR), and no other type of ticket or pass is valid. Previously, the 100E buses did not run between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. Passengers could use the 200E bus line during this time.
The main difference between the 100E and the 200E is that the latter can be used by anyone with a Budapest ticket or subscription. Therefore, it is more crowded most of the time than 100E. Also, 200E has more stops and shuttles only between Kőbánya-Kispest metro station and the airport. This course lasts 23 minutes. According to the BKK’s announcement, the operating hours of the 200E bus will not change.
Meanwhile, 100E operates as an airport shuttle, only having stops downtown. These are Deák Ferenc Square, Astoria and Kálvin Square metro stations. In addition, you need the bus to make the trip between the heart of Budapest and the airport in less than 40 minutes. BKK has announced that it will increase the frequency of the 100E because its utilization rate is high.
From August 1, buses will run every 7-9 minutes instead of the previous 10 minutes on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the 10-12 minute follow-ups will increase to 10 minutes. On Saturday, it will go from 10-12 minutes to 8-10 minutes. From midnight to 3:30 a.m., buses will run every 30 to 40 minutes.
BKK says the coronavirus pandemic has set back Budapest tourism and the use of the 100E bus line. Thanks to the end of restrictions, tourists have returned to the Hungarian capital this summer.
