What the Newspapers Say – June 3


All of Friday’s front pages carry the beaming Queen from the balcony of Buckingham Palace as Platinum Jubilee celebrations begin across the country.

“History Maker”, the I said, as she becomes the first British monarch to celebrate 70 years on the throne.

The Daily Telegraphthe DailyMirror and the Daily Mail all focus on the Queen’s great-grandson who steals the stage and was pictured with his hands clasped over his ears moaning in apparent discomfort next to his delighted grandmother.

The Daily Express reports that the Queen sent ‘crowds wild’ as she returned to the balcony of Buckingham Palace after three years.

In addition to the queen, The gardians The front page reports that “physicians’ systematic dismissal of women’s debilitating health problems” has helped to “spike gynecology waiting lists by 60 percent.”

The Independent notes on its front page that there are now 100 days of war in Ukraine and that the conflict shows “no signs of ending”.

Elsewhere, the FinancialTimes writes that OPEC and its allies have agreed to ramp up oil production as Saudi Arabia bows to US pressure to cool global prices.

And the daily star says holidaymakers have been urged to ditch the suitcases and only take carry-on baggage abroad if they want to avoid the ‘chaos of airport travel’.
